Pro Thru Hiker Aspirations

Hello! My name is Runa and I want to hike everything.

In 2019 I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail (AT) from Georgia to Maine. I haven’t really been the same since. Theses days, all I want to do with my life is thru-hike the steadily growing list of trails scrolling through my head.

Right now, those aspirations are at a standstill. I currently don’t have the finances to achieve my dreams. The pandemic that is still raging on doesn’t help matters either, especially when you’re car-less. However, I can do one important, wonderful thing: I can still dream. I can research, plan, and network about the trails I’d like to thru hike in the future, and share what I find with the world.

The Library of Blazes

So what does this all mean? I, more or less, am going to create a library for myself through this blog. I intend on gathering information about each trail I’d love to thru-hike, both domestic and international, and dumping all those resource links in one spot. This “Library of Blazes” will focus more on researching each trail from the perspective of a thru-hiker or LASHers (long ass section hike) as the focus.

What trails will be included? Any trail I personally want to thru-hike. There’s dozens of them! Most hikers ingrained in the community know about the BIG 3 aka the Triple Crown: Appalachian Trail (AT), Pacific Trail (PCT), and the Continental Divide (CDT). There are plenty of resources about thru-hiking these trails out there floating on the internet. That’s great! But what about the smaller, less well known long distance trails? Like the Ice Age Trail or the Natchez Trace Trail? Or how about the Haeparang Trail?

As I research each one, in the perspective of a future thru-hiker of said trail, I’ll gather the resources I find and place them all on this blog in a post specifically about that trail. For example, the Natchez Trace. Few hikers have thru-hiked this trail (mostly because it’s a 450 mile roadwalk). In my brief research about this unique National Scenic Trail, I would include links to Constantine’s channel, Hiking America. Constantine thru-hiked the Natchez Trace in 2020, and vlogged the whole trip. I’d also include the website links from the DNR and the Natchez Trace’s specific website, along with a couple of books that feature this historic trail. If possible, I’d reach out to any LASHers, thru-hikers, and even day hikers of this trail (even cyclists; it’s a very unique trail), to help expand the trail community network and share information.

All 11 National Scenic Trails I will thru hike someday! 🙂

Trail Adventures — Sharing the beauty

While I create my library of dream hikes, I’ll also share my hiking and camping adventures along the way. I currently live in Wisconsin and most of my adventures will begin there. Surprisingly, I haven’t explored much of Wisconsin’s hiking trails or state parks. It’ll be fun to share my experiences. As I save up money, vacation time, and the airports/travel opens up again, I’ll take occasional hiking trips out across the States and share those amazing moments.

Welcome!

Mt Katahdin on the Appalachian Trail. Completed my AT thru hike on Oct 5th, 2019

*P.S. I wrote this when I was car-less a month or so ago. As of Dec 17th, I bought a new-to-me car. I’ve never been so happy and excited for the adventures to come with Mr. Meow Meow (my car’s name. Lol).
